I was scanning my favorite event sites and blogs this morning when I came across a little article on getmarried.com. It's a list of Colin Cowie's insider tips for the budget-savvy bride. We all know that Colin Cowie is a designer extraordinaire and has put together show-stopping celebrations for some of the world's biggest celebrities. So, what does he have to say about producing a beautiful wedding on a budget? For the most part, his tips are practical and to the point. You can check out the full article at 7 Tips for the Budget-Savvy Bride.
Two points resonated with me because I truly believe that you should always strive for excellence regardless of the budget or occasion.
1. DREAM BIG. I'm always telling brides, friends, and corporate clients to put aside their budget and just dream about the end result. You need to free yourself from all your pre-conceived ideas and allow your vision to grow. As Colin Cowie says, "Small ideas get small results, so put budget aside while envisioning your dream wedding, then figure out what you can afford."
2. CUT YOUR COAT ACCORDING TO YOUR CLOTH. Once you have the dream, you need to consider your budget. Prioritize the most important elements of the vision, the things that will give you that wow-factor or personal touch. Then do them really well. To quote Colin Cowie, "It’s better to do 5 things correctly than 10 things on the skinny."
So, go ahead and dream of that champagne wedding! With a good planner, you can create that beautiful essence, even on a beer budget.
