Sample Gown Sales. We've seen a lot of interest in this trend over the last two years. Probably for several reasons but mainly because everyone has a greater sense of budget these days.
A side note, budget does not always mean low cost. Somehow we've taken this term and redefined it to
mean "no money" or "little money". But really, budgets can be large or small. You can be a Budget Bride with $5,000 or $30,000. Either way, you still have a budget.
So, back to the trends. I think many couples are more money conscious now than in the past. They aren't necessarily spending less (although some do), but everyone is more aware of how and where their money is being spent. So enter the Sample Gown Sale.
It's not for everyone. But, if you love a good sale and want a designer gown for less money this could be for you. You need to know up front that there are some expenses involved with a sample gown. You will need to have it cleaned, altered and sometimes repaired.
So let's take a look at what the experts say about the in's and out's of buying a sample gown. Ashley'sBrideGuide.com has a fabulous article featuring sample gowns. Surendra Kumar, owner of Oakwood Cleaners, shares his advice with brides seeking out sample sales. Surendra is a member of the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists, and is one of Nashville's best wedding gown specialists.
Click here to read his practical (very informative) advice.
I also found some practical steps to prepare for a sample sale here. It's a quick list of tips like - Research what salons carry your favorite designers and dresses. Then call and ask if they have any upcoming sample sales. This will narrow down your list and save you precious time. And there's always the handy advice of what to wear to the sale and who should go with you.
Now go out and find the designer dress of your dreams! And maybe, just maybe, you'll save a few bucks in the process.
