So today I'm going to venture off the beaten path and bring you some delicious inspiration. I know what you're thinking. That rainbow cake would never make an appearance at my wedding. But, isn't it fun? Doesn't it make you smile? I came across this little beauty a few weeks ago at The Idea Room and I just couldn't get it out of my mind. (Maybe it's a reminder that these dreary days of winter will soon be over, or maybe it just appeals to me in the same way that a new box of crayons does. All those rich colors just perfectly arranged!)
Anyhow, I started thinking about layer cakes and how impressive they can be if done right. They make a wonderful dessert for holidays and special occasions. But wouldn't it be glorious for your bridal shower? You can go traditional and serve a scrumptious mocha concoction or go for something light and fruity like mango or citrus.
And, if you just love the idea of unexpected color, take a cue from the recipe and instructions at The Idea Room but customize the colors to fit your theme. It's really very simple and the sky's the limit on color combinations.
I also love the idea of serving little mini layer cakes. You could do several flavors and display them on a dessert table. And, you don't need any special tools to make a mini cake. Shhh... it's a secret but I'll share with you. Simply bake your 8" or 9" cake layers and then cut out the mini cakes using a 3" biscuit cutter or a clean metal can. Make sure you let the cakes cool completely before cutting.
Need something sweet and thoughtful for your sweeheart on Valentine's Day? Why not make a pink and red layer cake? Now, I think I'm going to go make that rainbow cake with my kiddos. A perfect way to brighten up this winter day!
I'm Amy, and I love to plan and design events! Weddings, parties, corporate events - whatever the occasion, I love to make it fabulous. Thanks for stopping by! It's nice to meet you!
